President H E Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani attended the Final SOP

Doha, Qatar: Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) President H E Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani attended the competitions of boy schools at the 16th edition of Schools Olympic Program (SOP), which were concluded at the Aspire Dome yesterday.

The SOP boys closing ceremony was also attended by Minister of Education and Higher Education H E Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi, QOC Secretary General Jassim Rashid Al Buenain, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Dr. Ibrahim bin Saleh Al Nuaimi and President of Qatar School Sports Association and Chairman of SOP Organising Committee Sheikh Khalifa bin Khalid Al Thani. The 16th edition of SOP saw students competing in 11 sport disciplines, including football and basketball, volleyball, wrestling, gymnastics, athletics, swimming, table tennis, Taekwondo, Hockey and shooting.

This year’s edition brought together a amazing big number of students to prove that SOP has rounded the corner going on the right path to promote culture of sport encouraging
student to adopt healthy lifestyle in a way to join the national clubs and teams in the future including Asian Games Doha 2030.

On other hand, Vice Chairperson and CEO of Qatar Foundation, H E Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani crowned the winners of girls events at the conclusion of the 16th Schools Olympic Program (SOP) held at Al Andalus Educational Complex in Lusail city.

In this year girls have competed in four sport disciplines, including football, basketball, volleyball and handball. Most notably, the first edition of Schools Olympic Program was launched during schools year 2007-2008 under the slogan (Sport and Health), as Qatar was a first ever and a leading nation worldwide that adopted this program in its schools.
