The State of Qatar obtains membership in Executive Committee of Asian School Sport Federation

Doha, December 12 (QNA) – The Asian School Sport Federation General Assembly (ASSF GA) has decided to grant Qatar a seat in the Executive Committee of ASSF. The decision was taken due to Doha’s significant role in this field, in general and organizing School Olympic Program (SOP) activities, world-scaled innovative and unique project of Qatar School Sports Association (QSSA), in particular.

The members of the ASSF GA agreed upon this decision during their second day meetings. Qatar is hosting the ASSF meetings with the participation of many presidents and officials from 15 Asian Federations for the first time in its history.

Mr. Ali Al-Hitmi, QSSA Secretary General commented today that the General Assembly’s decision to grant Qatar the membership in the Executive Committee was unanimous in recognition of the special place Qatar takes among other ASSF member-states and sound contributions Doha makes for school sports’ development.

He also added that the countries of Lebanon, Nepal, the Philippines and Bangladesh have also been granted ASSF membership.

Mr. Ali Al-Hitmi stressed that the ASSF GA convened in Doha outlined the development of school sports in Asia as well as encouraging school sport activities which are of high benefit to the national teams of the member-states.

QSSA General Secretary explained that day’s meetings witnessed the ASSF Technical Committee meeting where the ASSF Calendar of the school championships for 2019 was discussed. Other topics were the following: proper support to the host countries as well as raising of both fees, for championships’ participation and annual membership.

Doha’s role is hosting the ASSF GA serves as an important step towards school sports development in Asia through the exchange of ideas between the QSSA and its counterparts in other member-states by bringing to the discussion various topics related to school sports activities, especially taking into consideration the vast experience of President of International School Sport Federation Europe Nicos Megalemos.

During GA, the QSSA presented a working paper containing many creative ideas aimed to further develop ASSF activ
ities that can be of high benefit for all the member-states.
