Stage set for Paralympic Day

DOHA, February 06, 2019. The School Olympic Program’s (SOP) Paralympic Day for children with special needs will be held in Qatar Sports Club in West Bay on Wednesday and Thursday. The event kicks off at 8:00 on Wednesday morning, the opening ceremony is held in Qatar Sports Club and the competitions – on the venue of Suheim bin Hamad Stadium.

The two-day event, which is jointly organised by the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) and the SOP Organizing Committee, will offer the students an opportunity to take part in various sporting events. 

The SOP Paralympic Day 2019 will be attended by many officials from SOP Organizing Committee headed by Qatar School Sports Association (QSSA) President H.E. Rabia Al-Kaabi, Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Qatar Olympic Committee and Qatar Sports Federation for Special Needs. The SOP Organizing Committee has held several meetings aimed to arrange for the Paralympic day, which is of great importance to all the people working on the Program. 

Ali Al-Hitmi, QSSA Secretary General, said that everyone has been keen to organize competitions for people with special needs since 2007, the year when the very first edition of Schools Olympic Program was launched.

QSSA Secretary General and President of SOP Organizing Committee also stated: “The Paralympic Day for disabled students is considered as one of the top priorities for the SOP Organizing Committee to aid the integration of people with special needs into the society. The day also aims at encouraging children with disabilities, their parents and their schools to take part in the SOP and enhance their sporting talents. We expect high participation of schools and other institutions operating in this field since the importance of Paralympic events cannot be underestimated. We wish everyone all the success.”
