DOHA, January 31, 2019. Public preparatory school students made impressive performance in football competitions organized by Schools Olympic Program (SOP) in Aspire yesterday. The event has seen positive interaction from all students, coaches and Aspire Academy officials.
In group A, Hamza bin Abdul Muttalib school and Al Emam Al Shafae cruised their way to the third round stage after Hamza bin Abdul Muttalib school scored 2-0 victory over Al Shahaniya Preparatory, 2-1 over Al Emam Al Shafae and 3-0 over Mohammed Bin Jassim Bin Mohammed Al Thani.
In group B, the winners were Ali bin Abi Taleb Independent school and the Religious Institute, after Ali bin Abi Taleb Independent school beat Abdul Rahman bin Auf school with a score of 2-0, drew 1-1 with the Religious Institute and 0-0 with Doha School. Meanwhile the Religious Institute won 1-0 over Abdul Rahman bin Auf and drew with Ali bin Abi Taleb Independent and Doha School.
In group C, Abu Obaida and Al Ahnaf Bin Qais schools recorded deserving wins to book their spots in the third round: Abu Obaida team defeated Al Ahnaf Bin Qais with a score of 2-0. Abu Obaida and Al Ahnaf Bin Qais schools beat Abdullah Bin Ali Al Misnad school with a score of 1-0.
In group D, Abdullah Bin Ali Al Misnad and Khalid Bin Ahmad school teams qualified for the third round after Abdullah Bin Ali Al Misnad won 2-0 over Al Shamal School and 1-0 over Khalid Bin Ahmad School while Al Shamal team played a 1-1 draw with Khalid Bin Ahmad School.
Preparatory stage students are reported to have shown strong performance and a high-level technical skills in the event, which is always attended by scouts who strive to choose the best players at this learning stage.
H.E. Rabia Al Kaabi, Chairman of the SOP and President of Qatar School Sports Association (QSSA), praised the follow-up actions of Aspire Academy officials and stated: “We have a unique partnership with Aspire officials who always spare no effort to support all SOP activities as well as spot talented players, ensuring they could get more opportunities to enter national clubs and training centers”.
The SOP is held annually as a collaborative effort of Qatar School Sports Federation (QSSF) and Ministry of Education and Higher Education, with hundreds of student athletes competing from all over Qatar.
The SOP committee aims to spread a culture of sports throughout Qatar’s schools and to engage the entire community in active and healthy lifestyles while retaining local values and traditions.
